Monday:
Freddie Wimpoles
125 Fitzroy St., St. Kilda

The famous George Hotel of Fitzroy Street was purchased by soon to be Mayor of St. Kilda and director of Melbourne Co-operative Brewing company, Frederick Wimpole, in 1873. Today, the bar seats 150 within its cabin-esque walls which are filled with beer cans and taxidermy that makes you feel like you’ve just finished a long day of hunting in the woods. Everyday of the week, the bar hosts its own “tappy hour” from 3-6pm featuring $8 tap beers, so why not kick off your week with a good deal and head over on a Monday afternoon! The drinks menu has a sophisticated selection of cocktails, scotch & whiskey, tequila, vodka, rum, gin, and wine, plus mulled red wine and a variety of spritz and espresso creations. They’ll even do their best to make up your favourite cocktail if it’s not on the menu. While the drinks menu is definitely impressive, beer is really the focus at this bar. They’ve got a rotating set of taps featuring their favourite local and imported brews. You can even check out a real-time tap list at this website to see what they’ve got before you head over.

Friday:
The Local Taphouse
184 Carlisle St., St. Kilda East

Friday night often marks the end of the work week and certainly deserves celebration somewhere with a bit of class. The local taphouse is a tavern style establishment with European design inspiration that was birthed out of several years of research in Europe and America’s finest craft beer venues. Each year, around 400 specialty beers are tapped within the walls of the Local Taphouse, which are a large part of why this is establishment has been so well-awarded since its opening in 2008. 20 different beer and ciders are rotated through the menu each day, so you can check out their current listing here to see what intrigues you. The spirits menu also heavily features locally made alcohol, alongside mexican tequila, a few french wines, vodka, rum, and some true southern whiskey from America. Saturday:
Love & Dysfunction
103 Grey St., St. Kilda

A mix of cool, quirky, and cosy makes for a perfect drinks venue in St. Kilda all year round. Love & Dysfunction seems to have nailed the balance with their eclectic decor and innovate drink menu, the intimate chats with staff, and the friendly vibe amongst fellow attendees. The kitchen here is permanently closed so the focus is definitely on what’s in your cup, but they’re so easy going here that you can even bring your own food along or have it delivered and they’ll plate it up for you. Cocktails are definitely the star of the menu with a full list of the classics, plus their own take on some of the crowd favourites, but wine and beer drinkers will definitely be taken care of. Grab a few close friends and enjoy a cosy evening tucked away in a corner, or out in the secluded beer garden. Still unsure? Scope them out on social media first, you won’t be disappointed.
