Go for a swim in the bay
The best type of exercise is the one that doesn’t feel like exercise. Take advantage of the heat and cool off while getting a few swim strokes in. Start your morning right with a dip in the bay or cool off in the afternoon. Discover the best beaches in the City of Port Phillip now.
Hit the pavement in the park
Grab your headphones, slip, slop, slap and go for a walk or a jog around the Albert Park Lake loop. This mostly flat course is just shy of 5 km and is famous for following the same course as the Formula One racing track. When the conditions are right, and the wind is low, this route is sure to get you zooming along to your fitness goals.
As if running isn’t enough to have you gasping for air, the views of the lake are pretty breathtaking too! You may even be lucky enough to be greeted by swans and other birds along your journey.
With plenty of places to refuel post-workout, you could even make a day of it. Read our blog on how to spend a summer’s day in Albert Park.
Free yoga in the park
Build flexibility while connecting your mind and body with free yoga classes in the park. Each Friday at 12.30 pm, St Vincent Garden will host a vinyasa class for local members of the community, and mums and bubs. Vinyasa yoga, also known as ‘flow’ yoga, pairs a near-freestyle movement with breath and is a great option for all experience levels.
If it’s raining, the class will be relocated to the South Melbourne Community Centre, on Corner Park and Ferrars Street.
Simply bring your own yoga mat, a smile and you’ll be ready to go. To book in, email firstname.lastname@example.org or call 9209 6677.
Hit an open court tennis session
Who said exercise had to be boring? For eight weeks starting in January 2020, have a crack at open court tennis sessions for people aged people 25 to 45 years of age. And what better time to pick up a racket than during the iconic season of the Australian Open?
Play tennis, enjoy some food and drinks and socialise. The program is available at:
- Elwood Park Tennis Club
- Albert Park Lawn Tennis Club
- Port Melbourne Tennis Club

The classes are completely free – so there’s nothing stopping you from having a go. To register, email firstname.lastname@example.org or phone 9209 6677.
