With glorious views of St Kilda beach, Pontoon bar and eatery is a prime waterfront hangout. Occupying sand level in the Stokehouse precinct, Pontoon balances a beach club feel with modern touches, including a distinctive Spanish menu that sets it apart from other St Kilda venues.
Beach club and deck dining
Taking the Stokehouse precinct to new heights, Pontoon has already made a strong impression in St Kilda since opening in late 2016.
A lively beach club, proving it’s a hotspot for an afternoon of drinking and dancefloor fun.
The venue is equally accessible as an upscale seaside dining option and a place for a quiet drink. With a large timber deck and indoor space, showcased by an 18 metre bar, Pontoon is a versatile venue for all-comers.
Spanish sunset highlights
To accommodate the cooler Melbourne weather, head chef Rhys Hunter has worked with Spanish-born and trained sous chef, Marco Valcarel Alonso, designed to be shared with friends and family.
Alonso adds his own distinct twist to some Spanish winter favourites, from olasagasti anchovy, green olive and guindilla skewers, to baked local mussels with saffron aioli and pangrattata.
From the grill, Hunter and Alonso have devised some excellent hearty Spanish larger plates. La Burger Canalla is sure to be a go-to for burger lovers, featuring a 180 gm Cape Grim grass-fed beef patty with manchego cheese, rocket piquillo aioli and guindillas on a potato bun.
And of course, no seaside Spanish menu would be complete without a paella. The Paella de Marisco showcases fantastic local seafood, with mussels, prawns, and squid in a delicious sofrito sauce.
Sweet treats and sangria
The Spanish flavours don’t just end with Pontoon’s savoury options. Classic churros – always a delicious sharing option – is one of the dessert stars on offer. Patrons will also be tempted by the delicious tarta de queso basca – a luscious Basque cheesecake served with brandied cherries.
To accompany these sumptuous desserts, Pontoon provides a luxurious bar atmosphere featuring high quality beverages. A lengthy local and international wine list accompanies a deep list of tap beer options, featuring Stomping Ground, Colonial Brewing and Stone & Wood; imbibe away, with all of your drink needs are covered.
Pontoon also featured some fantastic Spanish-inspired cocktails. Our stand-out pick is the Casablanca Spritz: Chandon, vodka, white vermouth, lemon, soda and mint. Delish!
Sangria jugs are also a popular option amongst Pontoon regulars, shared throughout both the winter and the warmer months.
Weekly options that delight the palate and wallet
Pontoon also makes sure to honour their local community with a ‘Local Lock-In’. On Tuesdays, locals can receive half-priced main meals all day.
For carnivores, Wednesday at Pontoon is Steak Day, with delicious steaks on offer for a very reasonable $20.
What’s coming up at Pontoon?
Pontoon is holding a delicious Father’s Day lunch, featuring slow cooked rotisserie chicken and $5 pots of beer – take your dad or father figure along, he’ll be impressed.
Whether you’re looking for quality beachside bar dining, a quiet spot for a drink with a view, or you want to dance long into the evening, Pontoon has you covered.
