Dip into Elwood Bathers
Setting up shop in the former Sails by the Bay location, Joel Penno and his team had big shoes to fill. Thankfully, Elwood Bathers has proved to be a fantastic addition to a thriving community, attracting visitors from across the city.
The beachside restaurant, which is mere steps from the water, provides Elwood locals and visitors alike with delicious all-day eating options.
Elwood Bathers works well in its foreshore location, with white walls and timber décor reinforcing the bright beach aesthetic, drawing nothing away from the spectacular view of the bay.
The venue also holds two event spaces available for both seated and cocktail-style functions, providing picturesque views and great catering options for your party.
Elwood Bathers has an important focus on being a local hub, serving a simple but delicious breakfast menu. After a morning walk (with or without a pup), you can visit Elwood Bathers for ricotta and caramalised banana pancakes, or eggs benedict served with a sublime bearnaise sauce.
What’s on the menu?
For later reservations, Elwood Bathers does a great job highlighting seafood in a variety of dishes. The delicious spaghetti vongole and crispy-skinned ocean trout both showcase the restaurant’s love for the sea. The vongole is especially delicious, with suitable doses of chilli and white wine rounding out the dish.
Of course, no meal by the beach could be complete without fish and chips, and Elwood Bathers executes their three beer-battered flathead tails to perfection.
Local libation and delicious desserts
All of these meals are accompanied by a wine list with a strong local flavour, and a cocktail selection that sticks to the classics, such as the martini (caffeinated and non-caffeinated versions), Aperol spritz and margarita. For beer lovers, Peroni and Mountain Goat are available on tap, with Hawkers, Wolf of the Willows and Balter ready in the fridge.
If you still have room after your confit duck or drool-worthy beef burger; orange creme brulee and dark chocolate fondant highlight the dessert menu.
Elwood Bathers has done a great job of moving into a famous space and putting their own spin on it. With a menu that plays to the classics with success, members of the Elwood community now have a new all-day favourite.
