A summer’s day in Elwood
Whether you’re a local or just passing through, Elwood is a fantastic place to be, especially when the summer sun is shining. Whether it’s cruising down Ormond Road, checking out one of the best beaches in the City of Port Phillip or tucking in at a great restaurant, this suburb has plenty to offer.

10 am – Breakfast and a swim
Kicking your day off with a great breakfast is essential, and it’s hard to go past Combi on Ormond Road. This village highlight has some of the best smoothie bowls in the area, with a strong focus on sustainability and delicious food offerings.
Fuel your day with some smashed avo or fill up on a peanut butter cup smoothie, then it’s time for a walk. From Combi, it’s a short walk to Elwood Beach and a chance for a dip in the bay.
One of the more popular beach spots in the City of Port Phillip, Elwood Beach really is for everyone. If you’re wanting a quiet day lounging about, a swim or even to use the strong winds for kite surfing – you can do it here.
1 pm – Lunch options galore
After your beach visit, no doubt you’ll be eager for something to eat, and there are plenty of options close by. If you fancy a bite mere steps from the water, Elwood Bathers has made a great splash on the locals. With spaghetti vongole and fish and chips stealing the show, Elwood Bathers is a great spot for a delicious beach-side lunch.
If you’re keen to head back down Ormond Road, Saintly do some of the best burgers in the Port Phillip area, providing a great base to plan your afternoon.
3 pm – Exploring boutiques
Tying back into the great village feel of Elwood, the area is chock-full of high-quality boutiques, where you can wander and get some relaxing shopping done. South Village Trading is a fantastic destination for homewares, cute kitchen pieces and impressive looking furniture.
For those wanting to grab some new additions for their summer wardrobe, Significant Other has a wide selection of men’s and women’s fashion, with local and international brands available on the racks.
There’s plenty more to scope out, just keep exploring down Ormond Road.
6 pm – Dinner time
After a busy afternoon of hitting the shops, no doubt you’re going to be keen to sit down for a well-earned dinner. Elwood has you covered no matter what cuisine you’re after, featuring excellent spots such as Dandelion. This Vietnamese restaurant has delicious crab rice paper rolls, alongside larger dishes like a caramelised pork hock or whole flounder.
If pizza and pasta are more to your taste, Jimmi Jamz is a great place for the whole family. It’s a favourite among locals, with their delectable pizzas a highlight.
8:30 pm – Unwind with a glass of your favourite
Elwood’s village has you spoilt for choice if you’re wanting to end your day with a drink, as it has a venue to suit every mood.
The Milton is one of the local gems on Ormond Road. The wine bar features a strong tapas menu backed by even better cocktails, like the classic Southside or the summer staple, Aperol Spritz. Showing off a strong wine selection to boot, the Milton is a great date-night spot or perfect for a catch up with friends.
Further away on Glen Huntly Road is the Elwood Lounge. This cosy venue features a killer beer garden, great drink specials and a perfect spot for a casual summer drink.
