There’s nothing quite like St Kilda’s Esplanade Market. Based in the heart of St Kilda, this iconic, palm tree-clad market stretches from Luna Park to the end of the esplanade.
Since 1970, the experiential market has been a platform for local artists and traders. This year marks the market’s 50th birthday!
Back in action once again (after the COVID-19 lockdown), local creatives, stallholders and market-goers were first welcomed back on Sunday 7 June.
As Melbourne’s art and craft makers’ haven, the Esplanade Market has made some tweaks to keep everyone safe and maintaining physical distancing.
Read on to see how you can spend a few hours at St Kilda Esplanade Market!
Fuel up with a coffee
Being a Sunday market, things don’t open until 10 am – ideal for a slow Sunday morning start. Kick-off your arrival with a caffeine hit from one of the market’s stalls. Once you’ve had your coffee fix, you’ll be energised and ready to get those steps in, taking a leisurely wander through the market stalls.
Wander around the stalls
The vibrant makers’ market is filled with an eclectic mix of stalls. This includes artisan:
• Health and beauty products
• Textile and crafts
• Handmade clothing
• Take-home food products
• And much more!
Made with love locally, you can support creative folk and small businesses who have been doing it tough lately.
With Australian-made food and products lining the stalls, you’re sure to find something that catches your eye for yourself, or as a gift for someone special.
Check out the local artists
On your journey, you’re bound to run into plenty of local artists showcasing their works. You’ll find photographers, painters, musicians, ceramicists and jewellers – all promoting their fine handiwork.
That’s just part of what makes this market so special, you never know who or what you’ll find!
Grab a bite to eat
After all that browsing, you’ll have worked up an appetite! Luckily, you can enjoy different food trucks every week. Serving up a variety of cuisines, you can keep an eye out for what’s up next by checking out the Market’s Facebook and Instagram updates.
Or, if you live on the adventurous side, simply rock up and let your stomach make the decision for you.
Continue your adventure
The market is proud to have always been part of the bayside Sunday experience. One of the beautiful things about the Esplanade Market is that it’s not a standalone destination that you drop by and leave right after. As an extension of Acland and Fitzroy Street, there are plenty of shops and eateries to explore outside the market – so the world is your oyster!
When: Every Sunday from 10 am to 5 pm
Where: The Esplanade, St Kilda
