I had the pleasure of catching up with Isabel from The Visitor recently. Isabel runs amazing tours through South Melbourne over a half day with her local South Melbourne Flavours Food Tour (here) or 2 hours with her Tastes of South Melbourne Market Food Tour (here).

As we were catching up we turned it into a rolling tour of South Melbourne’s best coffee spots. Isabel took me to some absolute beauties.

Wynyard
This is a place where you feel like you’ve found a hidden gem. Pouring delicious coffee and always feeling like you are part of the local community with great vibes in the atmosphere it creates.

Best Coffee South Melbourne

St Ali
A Melbourne institution. With amazing coffees in absolutely any way you want it. We went with a delicious filter coffee that had my tastes buds exploding with joy. The menu and ambiance will have you coming back again and again.

Best Coffee South Melbourne

Dead Man Espresso
The staff were so welcoming when we walked in. The barista came over to talk to us about the special Dead Man Espresso blend from Seven Seeds. The latte here was so smooth and the elevated space was full of light with sun beaming in.

Best Coffee South Melbourne

Trillium
A unique coffee hidden below the commercial buildings. The space is minimal but beautifully warm and friendly with local office workers swearing by Trillium as their coffee go-to. The staff gave us a full run down of their coffee and it was delicious.

Best Coffee South Melbourne

Clement Coffee
This space at the South Melbourne Market is an amazing way to fuel your shopping adventures. The staff are great and with the coffee roasted off-site at St Ali you know that it is the real deal.

Best Coffee South Melbourne

Padre
Inside the South Melbourne Market, you will find the team pumping out some of Melbourne’s best coffee. Add milk from inner Melbourne’s only independent micro dairy and you are guaranteed a top notch brew. Padre is always bustling.

Best Coffee South Melbourne

Cottle on Coventry
Every Cottle customer shares a rich coffee history that began in 1912. The enthusiasm oozes through the staff as you are shown a selection of different blends. With the roasting on site under the roof of the old saddlery you’ll be sure to have the delicious smell of coffee hit you when you walk through the doors.

Best Coffee South Melbourne

Tea Drop
We grabbed a chai from Tea Drop to ensure we had something for those that don’t love coffee. This is their most popular drink and it is sensational; a creamy cup of beautifully balanced spices with just a hint of sweetness.

They have over 100 flavours of tea which ensures they have something for everyone!

Best Coffee South Melbourne

While we couldn’t visit them all, Isabel knew all the best cafes and her knowledge of the South Melbourne area is second to none. She has fun facts about all the quirky and best spots. What a great way to explore South Melbourne and find even more great places to try once, or add to your regulars list.
