Modern Australian stylings

Executive Chef and Director Ennis Le has created the electric atmosphere at Hanoi Mee. Whether seated at the bar or within the heart of the bustling floor, patrons are in for a visual and gastronomic treat. A tantalising combination of traditional Vietnamese culture, meshed with the upscale feel of a modern Australian restaurant, sets Hanoi Mee apart from other fusion style restaurants.

This distinction continues into it’s exciting menu, where several stand-out selections take the spotlight.

Smaller dishes to start the evening

Vietnamese fried chicken ribs and twice-cooked pork belly will delight those seeking traditional bites with an added sense of flair. If you’re looking for a walk on the wilder side, the confit salmon served in a sesame cone with coconut, avocado, granny smith apple and caviar may be more your speed. While a curious combination, this is a flavour bomb worth experiencing.

Also on offer is a selection of buns (our pick was the crispy soft shell crab), alongside dumplings, spring and rice paper rolls and (of course) warming bowls of pho.

To complement such interesting starters, it’s hard to go past a little added spice. The Chili Mojito adds dynamite chilli and ginger/chilli syrup to a regular mojito offering. Although odd sounding at first, the balance is perfect – it’s a definite highlight of Hanoi Mee’s cocktail selections.

Larger plates that wow

The Hanoi Mee’s taste adventure continues through the larger plates. Our highlight? A truly delicious and substantial caramelised pork hock, with a mouth-watering tamarind and caramel sauce, lettuce, herbs and pickled carrot.

Fusion reigns supreme in the mains, with a Vietnamese “gnocchi” taking the lead. Presented as tossed rice noodles with Sher wagyu beef, lemongrass and chilli, this is an exciting and delicious mesh of flavours and styles.

For seafood lovers, a crispy whole baby snapper or grilled salmon wrapped in banana leaves will leave diners with satisfied appetites.

Delightful Vietnamese sweets

For those with room for dessert, Hanoi Mee’s sweets menu has rich and refreshing options for all palates. A lemongrass meringue with custard apple ice cream, summer berries and kaffir lime sugar is a cleansing end to a rich meal.

After something darker and richer? A peanut butter parfait should hit the spot perfectly.

Hanoi Mee’s menu is full of variety and consistent on quality. This fusion phenomena is a sure to remain a favourite for Port Melbourne locals and visitors alike.
