27 Dec 2018

Thursday nights are like no other come summertime in St. Kilda, on account of the ever popular St. Kilda Twilight market. Beginning at the end of November and continuing through summer, the O’Donnell Gardens are transformed into a bustling, bazaar-style gathering, from 5pm every Thursday night, solving the midweek question of ‘what to do in St. Kilda’. What is special about this market compared to other night markets in Melbourne, or St. Kilda events in general? The St. Kilda Night market is independently run, and locally produced, which means you will enjoy the creative ventures of artists, designers, chefs, and performers from your very own extended community. The St. Kilda Twilight market has already kicked off for the 2018/2019 summer, so read over the details below and don’t miss out on one of the best things to do in St. Kilda!

Where do I find the St. Kilda Twilight Market?

The location of this St. Kilda event is tucked away between the famous Acland Street and the equally famous Luna park at the O’Donnell Gardens. Market goers can identify this spot by the canopy of palm trees above the market, the dreamy sounds of music and excited chatter, and the smells of delicious world foods perfuming the summertime air.

If you’re getting to the market by tram, hop on the 3 or 3a, the 16, 79, or 96 trams.

What can I expect at the St. Kilda Night Market?

More than merely a farmer’s market or a craft market, the St. Kilda Twilight market brings together locals from all over the artistic spectrum. You can arrive at the market from another melbourne suburb, or perhaps come early and spend the afternoon at the beach, basking in the sun, or having a ball at Luna park. Regardless of where you’ve come from, come 5pm you can wander over to O’Donnell park which will be lined with hundreds of stalls for your leisurely perusal.

You’ll find stalls with unique craftwork, upcycled and rare vintage finds, eclectic designer fashion, handmade jewelry, and a vast array of various artworks. Keep winding your way through, or perhaps follow your nose, and you’ll find what is possibly the most popular section of the markets… the food! Every thursday, various food trucks of melbourne come rolling through to set up for a night of feeding St. Kilda Night market attendees. You can chow down on one big feast or share with friends and sample dishes from all over the world.

If you can stay around for a bit of entertainment, take your tantalising food and have a seat to enjoy one of the many local musicians or performers that will be playing at the markets. Each thursday will showcase different acts so you can come back for more every week! If you’re lucky, you might even come across the esteemed fire dancers who never fail to wow the crowd as they light up the night
